Felixstowe Slope Failure

Project Outline: GTS were requested to attend site where an active slope failure was progressing adjacent to a newly constructed residential development. The team quickly developed an investigation and monitoring regime to determine the depth and rate of failure together with geotechnical and ground water properties. Throughout the face and periphery of the slip a number of boreholes were drilling to varying depths utilising various methodologies with VWP and inclinometer installations alongside the traditional piezometer installations.

A large amount of data was acquired via constant monitoring of VWPs and Inclinometers whilst the slope was still active and was under the influence of multiple failures. The parameters derived on site investigation were key to the development of an appropriate design solution and subsequent movement monitoring during remedial construction activities.
